Brussels, 9 July 2026 — The International Federation for Rights and Development (IFRD) welcomes the European Parliament’s adoption today of its resolution on the threat of war crimes and the human rights situation in El-Obeid, Sudan (2026/2799(RSP)).
Today, the European Parliament chose clarity over silence. Unlike November’s resolution on El-Fasher, which called for sanctions against unnamed “financiers and external enablers,” today’s text identifies the UAE-linked financial networks documented in The Sentry’s October 2025 and February 2026 reports. This is the accountability step Parliament stopped short of eight months ago.
This is a historical moment for the people in Sudan. After years of suffering, starvation, gender-based violence, and rape, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
