Statement on the Palestinian Authority’s Decision to Order Al Jazeera to Cease Operations in the West Bank

We strongly condemn the Palestinian Authority’s decision to order Al Jazeera to stop working in the West Bank. This decision constitutes a serious infringement on freedom of the press and the right to access information.

Journalism plays a vital role in fostering transparency, accountability, and democracy. Silencing media outlets undermines these principles and sends a troubling message about the suppression of independent voices in Palestinian society. At a time when the Palestinian people face immense challenges, it is essential to uphold the rights of journalists to report freely and ensure that diverse perspectives are heard.

We call on the Palestinian Authority to reverse this decision immediately and to prioritize safeguarding press freedoms. The path to justice and liberation must be paved with openness, dialogue, and respect for fundamental human rights.

This moment requires courage not to silence dissent, but to embrace the diverse voices that shape a stronger, united, and resilient Palestine.
